Смоленск

Smolensk is one of the oldest Russian cities mentioned already in first Russian chronicles. The city is located 380 km to the south-west of Moscow in the upper reaches of the Dnieper. It has a favorable geographical location on the road from Moscow to Belarus, Baltic States, Central and Western Europe.

The development of the city benefited from its advantageous position on the crossroads of the way “from the Varangians to the Greeks” connecting the “Viking” Sea ad the Black Sea and the way from east to west connecting the city with the Volga.

Smolensk boasts of the three churches of the 12th c., the functioning Cathedral of the Assumption and four monasteries. The Smolensk Land is attractive to tourists in any season by its rich history, magnificent nature and inimitable beautiful landscape of its old towns.
