Vyshny Volochek in a literature source dates back to 1437. Due to its unique geographical location on the main watershed of the Russian Plain, the city has long been a key element on the trade waterway between Hanseatic Europe and the Russian Volga region. It has gone a historical route from Ancient Volok, the capital of Russia's first artificial water system to one of the regional industrial and cultural centers.
